Bribie island is the only island in Queensland to be connected to the mainland by bridge. The bridge is said to be 831 metres long and was built in 1963.

About 55 square kilometres of Bribie Island is uninhabited National Park, covering nearly one-third of the island.

The Name "Bribie"
The name Bribie Island is thought to have come from an Aboriginal expression “Boorabee” which refers to a koala or the island itself.
